Los Angeles Art Association is pleased to present SPARTAN, our next all media group show at Gallery 825. Juried by Alec Longmuir of Melissa Morgan Fine Art, SPARTAN is an all media exploration of spare or stark expression. In addition to SPARTAN, LAAA will also present three solo exhibitions by Pamela Beck, Richard S. Chow and Suzanne Pratt.

Pamela Beck’s art practice taps into her lifelong love of contemporary art and the joy (and challenge) of creating. As Beck’s process develops, she finds herself moving between dimensional compositions, the unexpected intersection of color and light, and the endless potential of abstraction. The work becomes its own kind of storytelling. In her solo exhibit Flower Power, Beck created a contemporary body of work, abstract, voluptuous, alive with color and calm. Beck tested various liquid solutions for the flowers to drink, altering their natural colors, and causing some to glow in the dark. Flower Power has become the artist’s mad scientist series.

Richard S. Chow's solo exhibit, Present Tense, showcases an innovative series created through alternative cameraless photography. This collection features lumen and cyanolumens prints, offering rich, layered compositions that engage both the eye and the mind. The title Present Tense symbolizes the re-purpose of vintage mediums into contemporary art. His work harnesses the elemental forces of light and nature to produce abstract imagery, capturing themes of impermanence and unpredictability. Through this analog process, Richard embraces the concept of "slow photography," where each piece becomes a unique record of time, imprinted directly onto photo paper. This cameraless approach fosters deep contemplation and meaningful time investment in each image. Through this meditative practice, the exhibit calls for a pause in the rush of modern life to appreciate fleeting beauty that often goes unnoticed.

Suzanne Pratt’s exhibit Flyways presents her current works with paper, which she has been known to describe as “sculptural wall reliefs” or “2-1/2 dimensional”, defy easy categorization. With her investigation of patterns of reflective color and shadows and the optical manipulation of light and color fields that unfold over time-Pratt engages some of the central elements of the Light & Space movement but on a much more intimate and personal level. The surface area comes alive through the interaction with natural and artificial light transforming the works into visual stimuli completed only by a viewer’s participation.
