Los Angeles Art Association is proud to present 4 solo exhibitions by Bachrun LoMele, Peter Hiers, Lorraine Bubar and Michael Chomick. Opening at Gallery 825 by appointment starting Saturday, April 17, 2021.

Bachrun LoMele’s ambitious installation Burn Pile / A Pair of Pajamas Cathy Ripped In Half explores the tenuous nature of truth and communication in 2021. Truth donors were invited to speak inside a private booth. Their statements were immediately leached of meaning by being scrambled with previously donated truth statements. Artist Bachrun LoMele now commemorates these garbled statements in the context of a collapsed domestic space. Perhaps there has been a disagreement? People may never agree on truth, possibly they can they agree on sincerity. Might the apprehension of a greater truth, unknowable, oblique, arise from this? In Peter Hiers' new exhibition Which Road from Here?, the artist hopes to share questions about our consumer culture, the ideology that drives it and the consequent impacts on the planet and long-term effects on human existence. Using fragments of blown tires, Hiers explores an interconnected web that provides for human survival, and its contradictory appeals and perils. Ripped tire fragments offer a metaphorically rich material for ruminations on a variety of burning present day issues, including the current Anthropocene Extinction period, global warming, transportation-dependence and fossil fuel dependence, questioning the American Dream ideology, questioning consumer and capitalist culture, the future of humanity, the daily generation of detritus and waste, resource depletion and car-culture. Hiers aims for this exhibition to walk the tightrope between contrasts: to be both thought provoking and mildly disturbing; combine both ugliness and beauty; evoke both discomfort and hope; depict both destruction and the creation of something new. Lorraine Bubar's exhibit, Peak Experiences, captures the colors, textures, and species in the natural landscapes where she had the honor to be the Artist in Residence. As we emerge from this past year of isolation, many of us sought the beauty, solace, physical challenges, and exhilaration of the outdoors. Bubar captures experiences she had while immersed in the unique environments of Denali in Alaska, Zion in Utah, Petrified Forest in Arizona, and Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. Her experiences ranged from actually climbing peaks, to seeing peak blooms of wildflowers to the peak explosion of Tortoise Shell Butterflies in Lassen. Bubar cuts and layers paper to create kaleidoscopic, intricate wall pieces that portray places and experiences she has loved. Michael Chomick’s new exhibition PROVOCATIONS: The ART of REASON is a selection of 14 mixed media constructions that address social and political issues/concerns. These thought-provoking works delve into topics such as: the Wonders of Love, the Horrors of War, Gun Violence, Financial Inequities, Human Behavior, Global Affairs and Systemic Racism. The American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist, Nina Simone stated it so succinctly when she said “The duty of an artist is to reflect the times”. Words that continuously inspire the artist and his practice. CLICK HERE to view and purchase Chomick’s artwork.
