Artist Statement
As a ceramicist at Chouinard Art School, the making of bowls and bowl forms on the potters' wheel developed my sense of space and how I interpret space now. A bowl has many metaphors of function: a gift, an offering, emotions, sustenance, etc., and I have appropriated the image as one of a recurring symbol in my work. These paper half bowls reduce the object to its silhouette, upper edge and foot. These placed on the mirror board gives another dimension, perhaps mysterious, unknown, another dimension. The reflection recreates a whole image but maybe not real. There may be another mirror bowl floating in the background- it is a memory, a shadow, briefly visible.
