Seiko Harima
Artist Statement
Seiko Harima is an artist based in Japan, England, and the United States. Her practice expresses the beauty of nature through the power of color, using oils on canvas. Her current paintings are contemporary landscape views inspired by the great masters of the past.
She completed the Graduate Diploma in Fine Art and Design at the Royal College of Art (RCA), London (May-2023). She has been accepted to the Master of Research (MRes) program at the Royal College of Art (RCA), London. Her research at RCA involves expressing the effects of climate change using oils, and Gouache, on canvas.
She completed her MA in Fine Art at the University of Brighton, England (2021). Her MFA research examined the work of J.M.W. Turner, with an emphasis on the study of his color palette. At Brighton, she developed the “Atmospheres and Mists” series of paintings that express the dynamic nature of the atmosphere. She earned a BA in Fine Art from the Nagoya University of the Arts, Japan (2018). She studied Fine Art at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California (2013-2014).
Seiko’s artistic experience includes both solo and group exhibitions. Her most recent solo exhibition was held at the Kato Eizo and Toichi Memorial Art Museum (Gifu City Museum), Japan (April-June 2022). On March 3, 2023, she received the prestigious 2022 Art and Culture Engagement Award in Gifu, Japan, which is bestowed each year to the top contemporary artist in Gifu.
