Jora Nelstein
Artist Statement
Jora’s work has been described as evoking, “Mood, Movement & Mystery”. Jora hails abstract work; bold in color with a deep respect for nature, which she contributes to her memories of her childhood in Suriname. Jora’s tools range from bushes to spatula’s to sponges, working with acrylics on everything from canvas to aluminum panels. She focuses much of her work in the abstract realm, but her female figures are a constant reoccurring theme as homage to the powerful women in her life; including her mother, sister, best friend and daughter, whom have led and inspired her. Jora is a Dutch artist living in Los Angeles, self taught, and credits being influenced most, by Peter Doig, Gerhard Richter,
