Artist Statement

In my work, I explore patterns and designs found in my travels and everyday life. I came across some of the patterns through my biology studies. These are forms I’ve worked with extensively, repeating and manipulating them until they have become part of my visual language. Others are snippets of larger designs that caught my eye, such as the wrought iron details on the front doors of Notre-Dame de Paris, etchings from an ancient bronze vessel from Chengdu, China, and wall tiles from the Alhambra in Spain. My sources come from a wide range in time but resonate with today’s design aesthetics. I find it interesting that people return to the same abstract patterns over and over. It connects us through literal space and time.
